According to Tribal Football, reporting via Sport, Barcelona have accepted Lucas Digne’s transfer request and will let the player go if a suitable offer is made.

Since joining Barcelona in 2016, the France international has struggled to establish himself as a starter in Spain. Given the quality of his competition though, namely Jordi Alba, this shouldn’t cloud the fact that Digne is a supremely gifted full-back.

It’s looking likely that Manchester United will need to source a new left-back this summer with Ashley Young ageing, Luke Shaw seemingly terminally out of favour with Jose Mourinho, and Daley Blind edging closer to a return to Ajax (as per Sky Sports).

The Breakdown

Manchester United signing Lucas Digne seems like it could be a straightforward deal that is both affordable, and one that would add quality to Mourinho’s squad.

Digne would have the opportunity for much more game time at Old Trafford and could demonstrate his quality on a more regular basis, whilst the Red Devils’ will be assured to see that area of their team looked after for the foreseeable future.

Digne is the kind of defender Mourinho likes. A diligent worker who is well focused, full of energy, and able to follow instructions and play within a system. His excellent delivery from the left should provide Romelu Lukaku plenty to feed off, and that could be a promising combination to see develop.

At 24-years-old Digne still has his best footballing years ahead of him, and United should act quickly to get a deal for the man valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt wrapped up quickly.
