Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku wants to move to Juventus if he’s surplus to requirements at Old Trafford according to the Sun, and the move could be just what he needs.

The 25-year-old (valued at a whopping £76.5m by Transfermarkt) has been inconsistent since his move to United in 2017, but now Jose Mourinho is no longer at the club he’s being used even less. Since December 22, he’s only played 90 minutes twice and those have come in the last two games where United have been hit with injuries.

He’s scored eight goals in 24 appearances this season, which is pretty average but it’s more about his all-round play that’s now making him look less and less likely to regain his spot in United’s strongest line-up. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to want a fluid, fast front three to blitz defences as Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United used to do.

United have had their fair share of physical strikers in the past, but they were also technically gifted and Lukaku simply isn’t. Everyone knows his first touch isn’t great and apart from shielding the ball and holding it up, he offers very little creatively – he slows the game down. For some teams, this would be ideal, but for the direction United are heading in, he’s just not.

With Gonzalo Higuaín looking to have no way back at Juventus, they could do with a striker like Lukaku to play off Paulo Dybala. The league is much slower than the Premier League and would suit his style, while also offering him the chance to get regular game time for one of Europe’s best sides.

If Solskjaer doesn’t get the job and someone like Zinedine Zidane does, he may have a chance at clawing back his United career, but if things remain the same at Old Trafford he’ll be best looking abroad for regular game time.

Where do you think Romelu Lukaku would be best playing his football next season?
