A group of punters at the far end of the bar are watching on with their mouths agape amid reports from the Telegraph that Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho could steal in to sign Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea this summer if the Blues elect to sell him on.
The Spaniard capped his 300th Premier League appearance with a goal and assist on the weekend as the Londoners beat Swansea to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points, but there are still doubts about his future.
Fabregas himself has recently claimed that he’s happy at the club, but reports from the Express back in September revealed he could be sold after failing to convince Conte, while the Telegraph’s latest revelation suggests that AC Milan are already eyeing up a summer move for the 29-year-old if the Italian gaffer opts to let him go.
But the report doesn’t leave it at the Rossoneri, instead Mourinho’s Man United are mentioned as possible suitors, with the Portuguese boss seemingly keen to reunite with the man who helped him to secure the 2014/15 league title at Stamford Bridge.
Such a deal would be a shock, but with Antonio Conte thought to be chasing Tiemoue Bakayoko of Monaco, he may need to sell one of his central midfield options to clear space, which might see them take the money potentially on offer from a direct rival.
One punter in the corner has eagerly found a picture of the banner in which Fabregas was accused of being one of the key protagonists in getting Mourinho sacked at Chelsea, so we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any truth to this story.
