Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are keen to see their side strengthen their ranks in January and it seems a new signing is in the sights of the Red Devils.
The Independent reports that Jose Mourinho’s side are amongst a host of European giants looking to land the signature of Brazilian starlet Vinicius Junior and have already seen one approach rejected by his club.
16-year-old Vinicius Junior is regarded as one of the hottest talents within Flamengo’s ranks right now and has been excelling in a youth tournament in Brazil recently, scoring four goals and laying on five assists to his team-mates.
Manchester United were keen to secure a first-option on the teenage starlet but their approach was rebuffed by Flamengo, who is reportedly eyed by Barcelona and Arsenal, but their advances were knocked back- as revealed by Kleber Leite, who is close to Flamengo’s club director Fred Luz.
“[Luz] told me that he was contacted a while ago by a representative of Manchester United, who wanted to discuss the possibility of them having priority for a transfer,”
“The talks didn’t get far, because Fred Luz told them plainly that future discussions would depend on the immediate payment of a sum that would give them priority among offers of equal value. At that point, the Englishman, who thought it was going to be a piece of cake, left and didn’t return.”
Our landlord believes Flamengo are making the right choice in keeping the youngster at the club, as he feels he could follow in the footsteps of Neymar, Marquinhos, Lucas Moura and others who have shone at the South American side before later moving to Europe.
