With the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern still celebrating the signing of Nemanja Matic yesterday, the punters propping up the bar are dreaming of a title tilt.
Now Paul Pobga has a strong midfield base from which to build off, our resident Red Devils are increasingly confident about their chances heading into next season. So, with that in mind, reports from ESPN have proved promising.
They claim United are confident of extending deals for both Juan Mata and Ander Herrera this season. The Spanish duo have proved mightily important under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship this season, despite doubts about Mata’s suitability under the Portuguese.
Both La Roja internationals are under contract until next summer and the club are thought to have the option of triggering another year on each’s deal. However, United are believed to be keen on agreeing long-term arrangements for both, who helped the Red Devils win the League Cup and Europa League last term.
As you can imagine, our resident United fans are absolutely delighted.
Upon Mourinho’s arrival at the Theatre of Dreams last year, Mata was largely written off, considering his relationship with the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’. Still, the World Cup winner has proved his worth and tying him down to a long-term deal will be crucial if the Red Devils are to challenge on all fronts.
Herrera, meanwhile, has been touted as a potential captain by our punters and seeing him form a midfield trio with Pobga and Matic should be seriously exciting.
