It wouldn’t be summer for the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern without having to deal with rumours and reports in regards to star ‘keeper, David De Gea.
The Spanish international stopper was touted as a target for Real Madrid once AGAIN this summer, a seemingly annual occurrence, though now looks like staying at Old Trafford for at least another season.
Indeed, reports from the Sun shed some more light on United’s thoughts on the matter. They claim the Red Devils are so relaxed about potential interest from the Spanish capital that they’re in no rush to hand De Gea a new deal.
They were said to be prepared to offer him a massive hike of the apparent £200k-p/w he currently rakes in, though could now wait before trying to get him to extend on fresh terms, with Zinedine Zidane understood to have dropped interest.
As you can imagine, this has gone down very well amongst our resident Red Devils.
United have done very well to resist Real Madrid since De Gea’s infamously botched move back in the summer of 2015, so having another year or so to try and convince him to stay is great news for the Red Devils.
As Jose Mourinho looks to restore former glories, perhaps winning more trophies could ward Real off once and for all.
