Though Manchester United are simply one of those clubs to be linked with all manner of illustrious stars from all around the continent, even the most optimistic supporters in the Transfer Tavern cannot believe the latest odds from Ladbrokes.
When one of the locals mentioned the Sun had reported that the betting company had made the Red Devils favourites to land trophy-laden Barcelona lynchpin Gerard Pique, few of his fellow drinkers could quite believe it.
The Manchester giants are now just 8/1 to lure the World Cup winner back to Old Trafford, where he left for the Blaugrana way back in 2007.
Having previously been at 16/1, such a dramatic fall will no doubt excite the United fans propping up the bar this evening.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and perhaps Paul Pogba joining the Jose Mourinho revolution at the Theatre of Dreams, the 29-year old could be the next sensational name.
”It might not be just Pogba returning to familiar surroundings at United this summer, with the Red Devils now favourites to pluck Pique from Barca”, said Ladbrokes News’ Dave Burin.
Would Pique be enough to win Man United the league?
