Man United given big boost over solid Premier League target

This weekend saw the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern forced to endure yet another frustrating draw, this time away at Everton, as the Jose Mourinho era continues to struggle to get off the ground.

While the Red Devils aren’t looking completely hapless, they remain way off the pace in the title race as our United supporting punters struggle for reasons to smile.

Still, reports from the Daily Record have at least served as somewhat promising ones.

They claim the club have been given the green light to sign Southampton skipper Jose Fonte in January, having been strongly linked with the Euro 2016 winner in the summer.

Everton are believed to be keen too and the Portuguese is said to be unhappy about his treatment on the south coast of late.

He’s understood to have seen the club fail to increase his wages and is reportedly unhappy he was not informed of a bid from the Toffees over the course of the last transfer window.

With that in mind, Saints are thought to be prepared to sell their defensive stalwart at long last.

Though Mourinho splashed big money on Eric Bailly earlier this year, central defence currently remains somewhat of an issue.

Injuries have forced Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones into regular starters recently, while doubts have been raised about both Chris Smalling and Daley Blind by some of our locals.
