The Red Devils the Transfer Tavern are in positive spirits after a fourth straight win in the Champions League last night.
Manchester United further cemented their place at the head of Group A last night with a routine win over Benfica who remain firmly routed to the bottom of the group. United sit comfortably at the top of the tree with 12 points, but the United contingent on the bar won’t be putting the champagne on ice just yet as qualification is still not mathematically guaranteed. However, it would take an extraordinary set of results to prevent United from qualifying at this stage.
The result was especially memorable for United prodigy Marcus Rashford, who was celebrating his 20th birthday yesterday. And Rashford thanked supporters for their kind words on Instagram following a fantastic result for the club.
Although Rashford was not handed a birthday gift in the shape of a starting berth by Mourinho, he still managed to have a decisive impact on proceedings. Just two minutes after coming off the bench, Rashford went on a typical direct dancing run into the penalty area to win his side their second penalty of the match after being upended by Andrea Samaris.
Daley Blind made no mistake from the sport to put the game beyond Benfica and ensure United’s perfect Champions League record continued at Old Trafford.
What a way to celebrate the big 20!
