Man United hold talks with rock solid defensive Chelsea and Arsenal target

ManolasIn light of their defence being ripped apart by Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, the Manchester United fans that frequent the Transfer Tavern have been in a rather joyous mood following reports emanating out of Italy that the club have joined Chelsea in the race for Kostas Manolas.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, representatives from both the Red Devils and the player’s camp himself were in discussions in regards to a potential move to Old Trafford.

Though Chris Smalling has impressed in the heart of their defence this season, they have struggled to find a natural partner to pair him with. Daley Blind has been the option most frequently used to compliment the England international but isn’t a naturally imposing centre-half.

Due to the mounting injury crisis manager Louis van Gaal has had to deal with for large parts of the season, he’s even been forced to utilise midfielder Michael Carrick in the role.

With another major summer of transfer activity expected at the Theatre of Dreams, it is claimed that the Roma defender has emerged as a top target.

The Greek international is also believed to be of interest to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton after excelling in the Italian capital this season.

Across 39 outings for the Serie A giants, he’s notched one goal from defence while recording a further two assists.

Man United fans – do you view the Greek as an ideal partner for Smalling? Would you Arsenal and Chelsea fans out there be gutted about missing out on him?
