It’s been a strange summer for the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern when discussing all things Juan Mata.
Upon the arrival of Jose Mourinho as the club’s new manager, it was widely expected that the Spaniard would leave Old Trafford, in a similar manner to his selling under the 53-year-old’s watch at Chelsea.
A popular member of the squad, the World Cup winner was given little chance to keep his place at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, after proving himself under the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’, reports from the Sun claim the former Valencia playmaker could be in line for a huge new deal at United.
Two years left on his current deal, the 28-year-old is reportedly ‘desperate’ to extend his stay with the Red Devils, after growing settled in the Manchester area.
The club, for their part, are understood to want to get the Spaniard’s contract situation tied up within a matter of weeks.
It’s served as good news for the United fans in the Tavern, who are praising Mourinho for putting his faith in Mata.
