Manchester United fans within the Transfer Tavern are starting to come to terms with the fact that Antonio Valencia is at the tender age of 33 and could potentially be nearing the end of his career. Since his move from Wigan way back in 2009, the Ecuadorian has proven to be a brilliant signing, giving the Red Devils years of great service.
It will be a sad day when Valencia ends his career at Old Trafford but considering the right-back is still in tremendous condition and continues to bomb up and down the wing, it may yet be a few years until that becomes reality. Man United would be smart to start considering their options in replacing the number 25, and us punters think the perfect replacement could be in the form of Benjamin Henrichs, Bayer Leverkusen’s right-back, who is valued at £10.80 million on Transfermarkt.
The German star really came into his own last season, impressing massively in the Bundesliga and constantly he was rewarded with a starting position at right back. Not only can he be deployed in Valencia’s position but if United wanted to use Henrichs as a versatility man, he has the ability to play as a centre-back or even as a left-back.
Man United have struggled with defensive problems this season, from injuries to players out of form, this is something that really needs addressing if they want to seriously contend with rivals Man City for the Premier League title. With that in mind, our punters believe that Benjamin Henrichs will soon be a top player and the Red Devils would be wise to get his signature now before it’s too late.
