Man United once again linked with superstar and are reportedly prepared to launch transfer assault

It really is a rumour that refuses to go away.

The Manchester United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have long had to deal with suggestions their beloved club could make a stunning move for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale, though – painfully for them – a deal has never materialised.

So, we’d forgive our resident Red Devils for thinking they’ll never see the Welshman make a move to Old Trafford. Still, a report from ESPN today has certainly proved rather interesting for our United-mad punters.

They claim the Premier League giants could yet make a move to bring the former Tottenham Hotspur man back to England this summer. United would reportedly be willing to explore a deal, should the Champions League-holders indicate the £86m man is available for transfer.

Jose Mourinho was recently spotted joking with Bale before a pre-season clash between the two clubs, though the 28-year-old is still believed to happy in the Spanish capital. However, the three-time Champions League winner would apparently be open to leaving if he is forced out of the first-team picture by Zinedine Zidane.

While the idea of freezing a player like Bale out seems ridiculous, Los Blancos are strongly linked with a world record move for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, who could partner the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio up front.

Landlord’s Verdict

United have spent an awful lot of money trying to restore former glories to the Theatre of Dreams, though perhaps bringing Bale (albeit at great expense) would put an end to that. Proven in the Premier League, the Welsh wizard is probably the best player the Red Devils could possibly hope to sign and his arrival would surely make Mourinho’s side title favourites.

Still, why would he leave Real? Said to be a favourite of Florentino Perez, Bale departing the Spanish capital for anywhere else would be a step-down.
