Man United plotting swoop for powerful 22-year-old

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were surprised to hear this morning that a Ligue 1 full-back target of theirs was not Fabinho.

Instead, TuttoMercatoWeb indicate Manchester United are eyeing another defender from Monaco and have their sights set on 22-year-old left-back Benjamin Mendy.

The Frenchman has impressed with the French principality side after joining from Marseille last summer, where he spent three-years, and an exit from French football is looking increasingly likely at some stage in 2017.

As well as Manchester United, Italian outfit Napoli are also keen on the France U21 international but would be unable to compete with the financial might that Jose Mourinho’s side possess.

Back in Manchester, it appears this move would be the final nail in the coffin for Luke Shaw, who has not played a Premier League game since October and has not featured at all in the first-team since November, as Mendy would be seen as the left-back for the coming years.

Our landlord isn’t too sure about these reports and has suggested Manchester United reassess Luke Shaw’s position at the club, as he feels the England international can still be a capable option.

Would this be a good move for Manchester United? Let us know in the comments below!
