The Manchester United supporters in the Transfer Tavern recently have been used to a certain Portuguese flavour when it comes to processing their transfer rumours.
Jose Mourinho. Renato Sanches. Jose Mourinho. Renato Sanches.
You get the point.
Still, they’ve reacted with further delight following reports from A Bola that their club is ready to make a move for Sporting Lisbon winger Joao Maria.
A relatively new name in the proverbial rumour mill, the tricky winger has impressed in the Portuguese capital this season and is thought to be of interest to the Red Devils.
The recently capped Portugal international is believed to have a €60m buyout clause in his deal, and while Sporting were willing to sell him for around half of that, concrete interest could drive the price up to that sort of mark.
Is Maria what United really need? Should they be wary of paying that sort of money for him?
