Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have let out a huge groan this morning, after a report emerged that shattered the club’s ideal transfer plans.
Amidst all the speculation once again linking David De Gea with a move to Real Madrid, many Manchester United fans were hoping for a part-exchange deal if the Spanish goalkeeper was to leave – but any chance of that happening appears to have been blocked.
Spanish outlet OK Diario report Real Madrid have informed Manchester United that any bid for David De Gea this summer will be solely cash-based, ruling-out the possibility of Jose Mourinho’s side securing the likes of Alvaro Morata or James Rodriguez in return.
Both Morata and James have been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, with the pair frustrated by their lack of first-team opportunities this season, but Mourinho’s men will have to conduct deals for the pair separately from any De Gea sale.
The 26-year-old infamously came close to joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 but saw a deal fall through in the final minutes of the transfer window, although speculation linking the goalkeeper with a return to Spain has persisted ever since.
Our landlord believes United should sell for the right price this summer, as he feels De Gea’s move to Real Madrid is inevitable.
