Jesse Lingard is a name chanted both often and loudly by the Manchester United fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern, such is the degree of his popularity amongst our local Red Devils.
While he’s not a nailed-on name in Jose Mourinho’s first-team, the England international is indicative of the club’s tradition in developing their own stars and the fact he notched the winner to secure the only piece of silverware in the post-Sir Alex era won’t be soon forgotten.
Which is why the United-mad punters in today are oh so happy to read reports from the Sun. They’ve revealed the 24-year-old has agreed a four-year deal to remain at Old Trafford in the long-term, an agreement that will reportedly see him earn over double his current salary.
He currently has just 18 months to run on his deal at the Theatre of Dreams and has become a regular member of the matchday squad in recent seasons, thanks to Louis van Gaal, despite a number of loan spells yielding varying level of success earlier on in his career.
However, he is now a bonafide member of Mourinho’s plans to restore former glories and the fact United look like keeping him around long-term has gone down very well in the Tavern.
How far can Lingard go at United? Let us know below…
