Man United should change their approach and avoid this veteran striker

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased with Jose Mourinho’s summer business and the start to the new Premier League season, though a real debate has been sparked at the bar.

The Red Devils are widely reported to be in discussions to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to Old Trafford following his successful season last term, where he scored 28 goals across all competitions, in a playing role that will then evolve into a position behind the scenes.

35-year-old Swedish icon Ibrahimovic was a huge success in his only season in English football last term but fans have been left wondering where exactly he would fit into the side this season following the signing of Romelu Lukaku and are concerned that it would lead to decreased opportunities for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Both of the youngsters have been used in wide areas by Mourinho over the course of the past year but they have the ability to shine through the middle, particularly in the case of England international Rashford, and a return for Ibrahimovic could hamper his development.

On the face of it, bringing Ibrahimovic back to the club wouldn’t necessarily provide Manchester United with an obvious boost as he’d play understudy to new main-man Lukaku and, if Mourinho is looking for effectiveness off the bench, then Rashford or Martial are both good enough.

Many fans would prefer to just leave Ibrahimovic with one successful season at Old Trafford rather than try to fit him back into the side and it’s a view that our landlord shares.
