Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern still wouldn’t be surprised to see the ‘Special One’ leave Old Trafford, as he enters his third and usually final year at the Red Devils.
Indeed, the Red Devils have vastly improved under Jose Mourinho in the 18 or so months he’s been in charge. However, recently our fans in the bar have been questioning if Mourinho is stuck in his ways, much like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is, and the last thing they want is an out of touch manager on the sidelines.
The Premier League and football in general moves on in cycles every four to five years, that’s for sure. Former boss and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson was fantastic at adjusting to the times and keeping himself and his team on the sharp end of the turning point. Although Mourinho’s tactics have been questioned in recent times by many of our regulars, he has still churned out results against two of the biggest teams in the Premier League in the past month.
The United faithful are desperate to get back to the free-flowing DNA of the club’s style of football, and Mourinho’s ability and guidance to be reactive more than proactive, as we saw against Sevilla, seems to be causing a stir. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at which TWO managers Ed Woodward should still be looking at in the near future, just in case…
