Man United should look towards £18m-rated Spaniard as ideal Shaw replacement – agreed?

The Manchester United fans within the Transfer Tavern are excited for next season knowing that they have the foundations of a top team – but with the inclusion of a couple of new faces, the Red Devils could be a force to reckon with in the Premier League.

It has been a season of disappointment for Jose Mourinho so far with no trophies won as of yet. Their rivals Man City have stormed away to the league title and United simply had to stand there and watch it occur.

In order to close the gap between them and the Citizens, a few new faces are needed at Old Trafford, and one position that needs reinforcing is the defence. In particular, with Luke Shaw seemingly not in Mourinho’s plans, signing a new left-back would make sense this summer.

Our landlord thinks that Aaron Martin of Espanyol, who is rated at £18 million by Transfer Markt, could be the perfect option.

At 21, he is already clearly very highly-rated at his club, having made 31 league appearances this season, and he has impressed in the defence of the Spanish side.

A very solid defender, Martin’s main qualities come going forward. He’s brilliant with the ball at his feet, with solid dribbling and excellent crossing making him a real threat down the flanks.

Luke Shaw’s future at Man Utd still looks very much in doubt and therefore our punters see the young Spaniard as a player seriously capable of eclipsing Shaw’s very best form at Old Trafford.

Landlords verdict:

Manchester United need to take a leaf out of City’s book by starting to improve their defence.

Too many times, their defenders have been unreliable due to injuries and that isn’t helpful when United are seriously hoping for silverware next season.

Therefore Aaron Martin is a youngster who should be taken seriously as a future United star, even if he wouldn’t likely be a cheap option.
