Manchester United patrons getting in an early round of ale in the Transfer Tavern are suffering mixed emotions this morning, with reports claiming Daley Blind could be axed by Jose Mourinho in the summer.
The Sun claim the Old Trafford gaffer is already planning a clear-out at the end of the season, with the Dutchman set to be the first high-profile casualty of the coming transfer window.
Blind followed former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal to the club in 2014 and remained a prominent figure during his countryman’s two-term tenure, featuring in a variety of roles across the defence and midfield.
But first-team opportunities have been harder to come by since Mourinho took the helm and although Blind’s made 15 starts in the Premier League season, he’s also been left out of several matchday squads over the course of the campaign.
It’s claimed Mourinho is already planning to bring in Victor Lindelof from Benfica, which will only further hamper Blind’s opportunities going forward. So with his contract due to expire at the end of next season, this summer represents the obvious time to sell.
The Sun even quote an unnamed United source as saying; “Blind is one of the men set to go early this summer. He has a while left on his deal. There are no plans to give him a new contract though. He’s running out of time to impress the boss. He has been very versatile for the club and a good servant, but Jose thinks he has better options now.”
