Man United suffer transfer setback as agent delivers crucial player update

As quoted by Portuguese outlet A Bola (via The Daily Star) Victor Lindelof’s agent has said that his player is happy at Benfica – delivering a blow to Manchester United in the process.

The Red Devils have been linked with the young defender with our resident United supporters here in the Transfer Tavern looking forward to their latest new signing under Jose Mourinhom but it now appears that could be unlikely to happen.

The 22-year-old’s agent said:

“There’s a lot of speculation, of course, and as I’ve said before, Victor is already playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

“He’s fighting for titles, he plays in the Champions League, and he’s very happy at Benfica at the moment.

“Of course there are clubs that are aware of what he has done at Benfica. Victor has done very good things here.

“But we have a very good relationship with the president [Luis Filipe Vieira] and he will make a decision for Benfica.”

United have been short in defence in recent weeks thanks to injuries to their two main centre-backs.

Both Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly have been out for some time, though the latter is soon set to return, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo stepping in.

And, whilst Jones has done a decent enough job according to our landlord, Rojo still leaves a lot to be desired.

He thinks that Lindelof would have been the ideal signing, too, but now thinks Jose Mourinho will have to try and go elsewhere for a new player in that position.

Who that is remains to be seen as the January window edges ever nearer.
