After being smashed in the league by bitter rivals Manchester City in the season just gone, the Man United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see Jose Mourinho improve the team ahead of what is hopefully a much closer challenge next time around.
With that in mind, reports from the Sun have gone down a storm in the Tavern. According to them, the Red Devils are set to wrap up a deal for Brazil star Fred, who will likely join next week and move to replace Old Trafford legend Michael Carrick in the role as a ball-playing midfielder.
A £52m deal is believed to be in place as Mourinho starts to put a more substantial title challenge together after missing out to Pep Guardiola’s City, a destination that has been previously touted for the Shakhtar Donetsk man. With the aforementioned Carrick having now retired, the punters propping up our cannot wait for Fred’s seemingly imminent arrival and will certainly be keeping a key eye on his exploits at the World Cup.
Alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, Fred could complete United’s midfield at long last. Able to dictate play from deep, or even get back and help out with defensive duties, he can help Pogba in an attacking sense, as well as allow United to dominate games far more often.
