Man United weighing up audacious raid on Chelsea in order to replace dismal World Cup winner

Though there’s the small matter of a major summer of international football ahead, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have their attentions firmly focused on a Jose Mourinho inspired rebuild.

As you might expect, the Red Devils have been linked with all manner of stars from around the globe, though two of the names mentioned this evening have come as somewhat of a surprise.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is closing in on a deal for Villarreal defender Eric Baily AND has enquired about Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The stoic Serbian bruiser proved vital as the Portuguese returned the Blues to the top of English football last season, only to watch his dramatic dip in form coincide with their collapse.

Despite his downturn in form, the former Benfica ace was a trusted lieutenant of Mourinho’s at Stamford Bridge and has seemingly lost his place since his departure in December.

With that in mind, there is thought to have been an enquiry as the 53-year old bids to beef up his engine room, especially considering the doubts about Bastian Schweinsteiger’s long-term future.

Do Man United really need another holding midfielder?!
