The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have already begun to discuss exactly who on earth the club should look to bring in over the course of the summer. Indeed, our resident Red Devils can’t believe the manner in which the club fell out of the Champions League and expect some more major changes over the next few months.
Clearly, the Manchester giants boast a huge amount of quality in their ranks already, though a few tweaks here and there are obviously needed. With that in mind, some of our United mad punters are suggesting the club make a second swoop on rivals Arsenal in a matter of months and look to bring in Hector Bellerin.
The Spaniard has been touted for an exit as the Gunners look towards their own revamp and could provide a natural successor to team captain, Antonio Valencia. Though the aforementioned Ecuadorian is doing little wrong at the moment, surely it’s time United brought in a specialist right-back to truly strengthen their defence, years after the former Wigan man was initially purchased as a winger.
Bellerin – valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt – would be a strong signing in that case. While his level has dropped since his breakthrough a few seasons ago, that is largely down to the wider problems at Arsenal and a manager such as Jose Mourinho would surely help him improve his defensive side of the game.
Full-backs with the technical and physical attributes such as Bellerin are at a premium in the modern game and his arrival at the Theatre of Dreams could help improve the style of play and take the impetus away from largely being a reactive team, to one that takes the game to the opponent.
Arsenal have previously shown themselves as willing sellers to their top six rivals and United would be stupid not to make a move for Bellerin should he become available in the summer.
