The Manchester United fans within the Transfer Tavern are optimistic that their side can still salvage some success this season, with the FA cup still all to play for. In what started out as an exceptional campaign, United have gone down like a led balloon, consequently seeing rivals Man City claim the league title.
It hasn’t been the ideal season for Jose Mourinho and co, considering they were amongst the favourites for the league title and looked worthy of it early on in the season. That hasn’t worked out obviously and whilst City have been exceptional, the Red Devils should be planning their redemption of how they will eclipse the Citizens.
A massive reason for Man City’s success were the improvements they made in defence before the start of the season. Our punters believe that United should follow in a similar style by acquiring a young, up and coming centre-back in the form of Clement Lenglet, who is valued at £18 million on Transfer Markt.
The Sevilla defender has endured a real breakthrough season in Spain, featuring in 31 league matches so far this season.
Man United will be familiar with the Frenchman too, considering he was part of the team that knocked the Red Devils out of the Champions League, due in large part to the stellar defensive performance from Lenglet and his partners.
Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling have formed a strong partnership in recent weeks but keeping in mind the injury occurrences both endure, Lenglet could learn his craft and become a strong, imposing defender at Old Trafford for years to come in order to improve the standard of defending as well.
