Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in positive spirits at the moment though they are a bit sad about Bastian Schweinsteiger going.
Indeed, it’s been confirmed by the club’s official website that the Red Devils’ midfielder was going to move to the MLS and play for Chicago Fire recently as the latest big European name to move over to America.
The German hero has been one of the best midfielders about for some time but in recent seasons he has struggled with an injury and his playing time this year has been very limited.
Jose Mourinho clearly didn’t want him, then, but one of his predecessors has suggested the former Bayern Munich star still has plenty left to offer.
Speaking to ESPNFC, Sir Alex Ferguson said of the outgoing player:
“I think there’s plenty left.
“Unfortunately, he had an injury last season and he was out for a while and when he came back we had a new manager and the new manager, Jose [Mourinho], had his own ideas.”
For Fergie, then, the World Cup winner still has a lot to offer and that suggests that he could have perhaps stayed at United for a little longer yet, as well as the Scot perhaps disagreeing with Mourinho’s approach.
Instead, though, he is off to pastures new and our local Red Devils punters are wishing him well as he goes off to the United States.
