If there’s any side that could and perhaps should spend big in the remainder of this window it’s surely Manchester United.
The Red Devils have found some rhythm in recent weeks – though two draws in their last two league games has suggested work is still to be done.
Even so, Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the progress made during the last few months and whilst it’s unlikely they’re going to win the league this season – the top four is certainly on.
Out of all the sides contending for the Champions League places United are one of the best placed financially and that’s why they need to spend big on the likes of Nelson Semedo.
If United don’t finish in the top four this season it will come as a hammer blow with them already missing it this year but, according to A Bola, they need to ward off Chelsea for the signing of the Benfica man.
Semedo is a top quality right back who could improve on the admittedly impressive Antonio Valencia and would complement Mourinho’s young and exciting defence that he is building.
He’d add good depth to the squad, too, and would surely bolster United’s chances even further of getting into the top four as they prepare to contend with Europa League football once again from next month.
Getting Semedo in could be the start of a Champions League surge for United – but they’ll need to show Chelsea who’s boss in the race for his signature.
