Man Utd’s transfer window could have been even better, here’s why

Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern were watching Deadline Day earlier this week with pretty smug faces after their club had completed their business well before the deadline.

Indeed, whilst plenty of clubs about the Premier League scrambled in sometimes vain attempts to try and sign some players before the end of the window, Jose Mourinho and co. could relax watching it knowing that they’d got the exact squad they needed for this season.

But, do they actually have the best squad they could have? Or has Jose Mourinho actually missed a trick?

Well, here by the bar we reckon that United have made a bit of an error in not trying to sign a new left-back for the club’s defence.

Whilst Jose has done well in strengthening the club going forward with Romelu Lukaku arriving and added steel to the team, too, with Nemanja Matic on his way in, there is still a need for a new left sided defender.

Indeed, it seems as though Daley Blind is going to be the main left-back at the moment and that cannot be wise for a club who want to be winning the league this season.

Blind, a solid pro, is not an orthodox left-back and, though he can play there, there’s far better options out there for United.

Indeed, Luke Shaw looks surplus to Jose’s requirements whilst Matteo Darmian is hardly world-class and so, though United’s work was impressive this summer, it was by no means perfect.
