Manchester United and Liverpool should move quickly to capture Porto right-back Eder Militao because Marca have claimed Real Madrid are now in the driving seat for his signature.
The Express linked the 21-year-old to United and Liverpool earlier in the season, and UOL Esporte said he preferred a move to the Premier League for the next stage of his career, but the two clubs appear to be letting him slip through their fingers. They should make a formal approach before it’s too late.
The Brazilian has played 19 games for Porto this season and featured in every one of their Champions League matches up until now. He moved from Sao Paulo in the summer and has immediately impressed down the right, a position which both United and Liverpool desperately need to strengthen in summer as they look to pick up silverware.
United’s Antonio Valencia is now 33-years-old, too slow and simply not good enough to be first choice in a side hoping to win the league. Whether the manager next season will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or not, the club are looking to return to a style of football that includes quick wing play involving the full-backs, so they must secure world-class targets this summer.
Liverpool already have two great full-backs in Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but to compete in all competitions they need more than one player for each position. With Nathaniel Clyne left out in the cold on loan at Bournemouth, Klopp needs a new right back to challenge Alexander-Arnold and share the game time when fatigue sets in.
So it’s clear both clubs are in need of a right-back and the fact Madrid rate him highly enough to approach Porto says the youngster has talent. If he’d prefer a move to the Premier League as reports suggest, Liverpool and Manchester United should throw their hat in the ring and try to snatch him up.
