Man United are in desperate need of a partner for Paul Pogba in the summer. Indeed, Fred hasn’t been good enough, but Adrien Rabiot could be the man to get the best out of the Frenchman.

The future of Pogba is unclear, but to convince him to stay he needs to player like Rabiot to take his defensive duties away, just like N'Golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi did during the World Cup. Right now, he’s still United’s best player and they must keep him at all costs.

Fellow Frenchman Rabiot is available on a free from PSG this summer and so the deal would be risk-free. The Mirror are already claiming United are eying a move for him and it’s no surprise if they’ve seen his 14 appearances this season.

He may have only made one assist and scored two goals, but he can leave the stat padding to Pogba. He can control the tempo of the game and turn defence into attack with his vision to pick out the forwards and attacking midfielders like his countryman.

Potentially a world-class player and, at the age of just 24, he has the ability to become an Old Trafford hero for the long term. He’s a midfielder of old, and a type United fans would love to have back. He’s a battler yet has the technical ability too.

Right now, Rabiot is rated at £31.5m on Transfermarkt, so he’d be a steal of a signing compared to what they’ve recruited over the last six years. He could be the player to finally unlock Pogba’s potential and start the rebuilding process needed to return to the top.
