Manchester United: Fans can’t believe Solskjaer’s squad selection vs Colchester

Some Manchester United fans have found something to complain about in the Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Colchester, slamming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision not to heavily rotate the squad.
The Red Devils faced a particularly slippery banana peel on Wednesday night, as Colchester sought to become the first League Two team to knock three Premier League sides out of a League Cup campaign.
Indeed, the U’s have already bested Crystal Palace and Tottenham, but Solskjaer took no chances and ensured the Red Devils’ place in the last four, where they will face Manchester City.
For some supporters however, the Norwegian made a mistake playing such an experienced side as we approach the busiest part of the football calendar.
Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Andreas Pereira, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Ashley Young, all of whom could be considered key first-team players, started the match, while Jesse Lingard came off the bench.
The Old Trafford outfit travel to Watford on Sunday before games against Newcastle, Burnley, Arsenal, Wolves and Manchester City all by the end of the first week in January.

Starting a strong XI against League 2 side Colchester when we’ve got 5 matches over the next 18 days. Great rotation from Bashar El Ole. Don’t wanna hear excuses when a player pulls a muscle and he’s out for multiple weeks because we’ve prioritized energy drink cup.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense tbh, Garner and Williams should’ve started. Martial and Rashford also should be resting

Ole is just afraid of losing at this point

I don’t get this at all. Missed opportunity to give a run of games to some of our young players and a well needed rest to starters. This is the least important of all competitions. Disappointing from my boy Ole.

Angel Gomes, James Garner, Tahith Chong, Ramazani, Levitt all could’ve played and gave Rash Tony a rest

Ole knows that if he gets this Dead Cup it’s enough to paper over the cracks and claim “improvement” which is why he’s prioritising it over getting top 4 at the moment

Imagine starting Rashford & Martial against Colchester like we don’t have about 5 prem games over the next couple weeks 🤢
