Manchester United: Fans frustrated as Chris Smalling is undecided on his future at Old Trafford - Manchester United

The Daily Mail reports Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is undecided on his next move despite the fact he has been enjoying a stellar spell with AS Roma.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Smalling’s first season in Serie A has been prematurely cut short, but he has still made over 20 appearances in the Italian top tier this campaign (Transfermarkt).

The 30-year-old has impressed Yellow and Reds boss Paulo Fonseca during his time in Italy, averaging 2 interceptions per game, and making 4.5 clearances on average so far (SofaScore).

After moving to Old Trafford from Fulham for £7.2m back in 2010, Smalling has featured in over 300 games for the Red Devils, winning the Premier League twice, the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. His current market value is rated at £18m (Transfermarkt).

However, the England international only played in 16 matches under club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before being shipped out on loan to Roma last summer.

Most United fans are frustrated Smalling hasn’t made up his mind, with one supporter adamant “he has no place at United and he knows it.” Several supporters have made it quite clear they’re keen for the defender to stay with the Italian side, rather than letting him join Premier League rivals Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.

Have a read through some of the mixed reactions below…
