After Manchester United succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday, Red Devils supporters have been able to find one silver lining in midfielder Fred’s performance – taking to social media and hailing the 26-year-old for his efforts on an otherwise regretful afternoon.
Virgil Van Dijk gave the home side a crucial advantage when he planted his header past a helpless David De Gea much to the delight of Anfield before VAR intervened with Roberto Firmino’s potential second goal. From then on, United had chances to equalise but ultimately squandered them, with Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial both spurning huge opportunities to draw level.
As a result, Liverpool were able to double their lead in stoppage time after Mohamed Salah caught them on the break to make it 2-0. Following a result supporters would soon most likely forget, one shining light was potentially Fred’s performance. The Brazilian, levelled with opposition full-back Andrew Robertson in terms of possession, having the joint-most out of any player on the pitch, whilst also securing the highest overall rating (7.4) out of anyone on his team – as per WhoScored.com.

He was superb. He’s not perfect, he makes mistakes but u can accept that wen he’s playing the right way. quick and brave passing, driving the team forward and battling hard. Shame we lost, unfortunately they were the better team

Nice Job Fred you’re red hero working tirelessly, the only thing missing is that your passes are not clinical enough and the finishing still needs a lot of work but I believe with time if you work on those then you would definitely be among the greatest #belief_in_Fred
