David de Gea was one of Manchester United’s heroes during their heart-pounding 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday, pulling off fine saves when required in order to drag his side over the line and return to their half of the city with crucial derby day spoils – and now supporters are hailing his antics after the full-time whistle.
The Spaniard, once the match ended and the result had been confirmed, rushed over to the Red Devils away end, pounded his chest, punched the air and screamed ‘Vamos’ to the travelling supporters – indicating his passion for taking all the bragging rights at Eastlands.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were just enough to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side victory on the night – with a late Nicolas Otamendi goal ensuring the last few minutes were nervy.
Now, taking De Gea’s reaction and message to the fans into account, some supporters called for him to become captain whilst hailing his match-winning heroics.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
He fully loves this club forever grateful pic.twitter.com/LxmDw8yTFp

I hope we start winning trophies again before DDG retires. He’s been here through from SAF to OGS and has been phenomenal. Had a minor blip last season but he is back to his best now. Love his passion for United.
