When asked on Instagram via United Xtra how he would rate Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood, ex-Red Devils forward Robin van Persie was full of praise and insisted he would do well – particularly drawing emphasis on the recent comparisons between the two players.
Is Mason Greenwood the next Robin van Persie?
A phenomenon among some United supporters has risen over the past two weeks, with a consensus steadily rising that Greenwood replicates Van Persie’s playing style in the forward role – holding similar attributes to the Dutchman.
Van Persie, who scored 26 goals and assisted 15 others in his debut season at Old Trafford after moving from Arsenal for £24 million, was a highly loved figure in the red half of Manchester for his prolific nature before he eventually left the club in 2015 for Fenerbahce.
Now, some supporters have come to the conclusion that Greenwood is the second coming of ‘RVP’ – with the 36-year-old echoing these sentiments on social media.
Here’s how fans reacted to Van Persie’s statement.
