Manchester United: Plenty of fans loved Harry Maguire’s performance as derby day captain

Manchester United were captained by Harry Maguire on derby day, and what a commanding performance he put in to see off Manchester City 2-1. WhoScored rated the Red Devils’ captain 7.38/10 for his showing, and that’s their highest scoring of him since September where he scored 7.51/10 against Leicester.

The Manchester Evening News complimented his “no-nonsense” defending in periods of City pressure and said he “marshalled the defence well”. He’ll have been frustrated not to keep a clean sheet, but it’s the first time United have conceded less than two goals at the Etihad Stadium since the second half of the 2016/17 season when the game ended goalless.

Manchester United posted a clip of Harry Maguire’s post-match comments on their Twitter feed with the caption “Yesterday’s skipper @HarryMaguire93 was proud to captain the Reds to a memorable derby day victory”. Fans were eager to reply and show just how impressed they were with his control of the game, and a few even touted him to be their future captain.

Man United fans, who do you think should be your club’s next captain?
