Manchester United: Fans not happy with the referee appointment against Leicester

Manchester United have taken to Twitter to let their voices be heard on the news that Martin Atkinson will be the referee against Leicester City as Stuart Atwell runs VAR from Stockley Park.

United will be eager to get back to winning ways as they take on the Foxes, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men not tasting victory since their magnificent 4-0 rout over Chelsea on the opening weekend.

Despite the Red Devils registering one loss and two draws, Saturday’s fixture against Leicester could perhaps be United’s sternest test since the victory over the Blues, with Brendan Rogers’ men still unbeaten, winning two and drawing two.

Experienced Premier League referee Atkinson will officiate the clash and the Englishman has so far handed out 16 yellow cards and awarded two penalties, although he is yet to dismiss a player this season (as per Transfermarkt).

Indeed, the home side has not won in the four games Atkinson has officiated this season, with Newcastle, Aston Villa and Norwich City all experiencing defeat under his control.

However, Old Trafford has not witnessed a home league defeat during Atkinson rule since Louis Van Gaal’s first-ever game in charge for the Red Devils, which saw Swansea win 2-1 at Old Trafford. [World Football]

Furthermore, United have been on the receiving end of just three two red cards since Martin Atkinson joined the Premier League back in 2005 under his watch, with Marouane Fellaini seeing red in a Manchester derby in 2017, after Nemanja Vidic saw red against Chelsea, four years after Paul Scholes was dismissed at Anfield in 2007 (as per World Football).

Still, it doesn’t seem as if the news has gone down too well amongst the United faithful online.

So, let’s see how the United fans reacted to the news.
