Manchester United: Fans rave over Robin Van Persie’s time at Old Trafford - Manchester United

The popular fan site United Zone tweeted a throwback to former Manchester United star Robin Van Persie scoring for Fenerbahce on his return to Old Trafford, prompting lots of reactions from supporters online.

The Netherlands legend tapped in a delightful poacher’s goal from a cross inside the penalty box and received a standing ovation from fans around the ground including his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

After joining the club from rivals Arsenal for £27.63m, Van Persie enjoyed a fruitful spell with United, scoring a staggering 58 goals and registering 21 assists in 105 matches in all competitions for the Red Devils. He won the Premier League under Fergie in 2013 and finished the season as the leading goalscorer in the English top flight (Transfermarkt).

The Dutch goal machine netted an incredible 274 goals in over 500 appearances throughout his illustrious career, including 50 goals in 102 caps for the national team, before retiring last summer at the age of 35 (Transfermarkt).
