Manchester United: Fans slam beIN commentator’s Paul Pogba and Federico Valverde comparison

Manchester United: Fans slam beIN commentator’s Paul Pogba and Federico Valverde comparison - Manchester United

Football fans across social media have slammed beIN sports co-commentator Thomas Rongen for his verdict on Manchester United’s Paul Pogba during the El Clasico on Wednesday evening, with the former United States U20s coach suggesting that Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde is in fact better a better player than the World Cup winner.

Who's the better player?

Helping to broadcast the biggest match in La Liga on beIN Sports, Rongen briefly seemed to suggest that the Galacticos youngster could be a better midfielder than Paul Pogba – with football supporters jumping to Twitter and hammering the verdict.

Valverde, who partnered Casemiro and Toni Kroos in the heart of the Real Madrid midfield against their bitter rivals, appeared to have a great outing – completing a 93% pass success rate according to WhoScored.com. Still, having just broken into the first-team out in the Spanish capital, to suggest he’s on par with a man to have won the World Cup, multiple league titles and scored 13 league goals last season might be a touch unrealistic in the eyes of many.

Zinedine Zidane’s men, despite scoring a disallowed effort through Gareth Bale, were held to a 0-0 draw in Catalonia – with seemingly nothing separating Spain’s biggest enemies in a neck and neck title race.

However, while the 21-year-old performed well on the night, Rongen’s comparison with Manchester United star Pogba has drawn heavy criticism.

Here’s how fans responded on Twitter.
