Manchester United: Fans slam Donny van de Beek after news emerges

Manchester United: Fans slam Donny van de Beek after news emerges - Manchester United

According to ESPN, Manchester United have a long-standing interest in Donny van de Beek but the club had accepted that he preferred Real Madrid, via @utdreport

Chief football writer Mark Ogden told the outlet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had considered a move for Van de Beek back in January, but the club turned their attentions to signing Bruno Fernandes instead.

However, the Red Devils are now in pole position to sign the Ajax midfielder after Madrid decided to recall players from loans.

The football journalist believes Ajax will be vulnerable to a lucrative offer for the youngster, having been knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Ever since he broke into the first team, the 23-year-old has become a man in-demand, as he played 23 games in the Eredivisie this season, scoring 8 goals, creating 5 assists, taking 1.9 shots per game, averaging 1.8 key passes, and completing 1 dribble on average (via WhoScored).

Indeed, the Dutch international finished the campaign with a higher WhoScored rating than Jack Grealish, who has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Unsurprisingly, it seems many United fans are unhappy about seemingly being Van de Beek’s second choice, as several slammed the transfer update on social media, with a supporter tweeting it is “embarrassing,” while another added “no thanks.” One fan even tweeted it would be a “mistake” to sign the Dutchman in the summer, which is harsh considering his performances this season.
