Manchester United appear to be finally close to sealing a deal with David de Gea to sign a new contract with the club.
After over 12 months of talks, the Red Devils appear to have finally won de Gea round, with Sky Sports reporting that the Spaniard is set to sign a new deal worth over £350,000 per week in wages.
De Gea will reportedly put pen to paper on a long-term deal which will end any speculation about his future with the club, and the 28-year-old will no doubt be keen to get his head down and focus on getting back to his best as Old Trafford’s number one.
The Spanish stopper suffered a loss of form during last season and made some uncharacteristic mistakes as United struggled to force a push for the top four under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In total, he made four errors leading to his side conceding in the Premier League after not making a single one back in the 2017/18 campaign.
However, with a new deal firmly in place, de Gea will be hoping to get back to business and find the form which has seen him keep 18 clean sheets in the 2017/18 season and a whopping 25 in all competitions the season before.
De Gea, who is ahead of the likes of Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira in the goalkeeping ranks at Old Trafford, arrived at United back in 2011 and has won the player of the year award for the Red Devils a record four times.
He has accumulated over 100 Premier League clean sheets during his time with the club, and will now be looking to kick on and cement his place as a potential United legend over the coming seasons.
With Manchester United conceding 54 goals in the Premier League last term, more than any other team in the top six, they really need their No.1 back to his best again. If not, then they could be in for another long season.
