After coming away from the Etihad Stadium victorious last Saturday in the Manchester derby, clinching a hard-fought 2-1 victory, the result was somewhat overshadowed by displays of racism from a small minority of home supporters directed at the players.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial sealed all three points for the Red Devils despite a late Nicolas Otamendi strike threatening a comeback, with the victory somewhat easing the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shoulders.
However, while this was cause for celebration, Fred in particular was the subject of racist abuse during the match – an act which is simply unacceptable and not just in the world of football.
One supporter in particular was caught potentially making racist gestures towards the players, with Fred responding to the incident with true class.
According to a Utd Report twitter post, the Brazilian stated: “I am calm, I am at peace. I want everyone to know that. The only answer I can give is on the pitch, what I’ve been doing, playing well – racism is a boring thing. A bad thing for everyone, not just for me, but for everyone.”
In response, Red Devils supporters have praised the class of the reply on social media – here’s what they had to say.
Well said Fred

It sucks that he even has to deal with this type of situation but I’m glad he’s not letting the actions of some idiotic bigots affect his confidence and self-worth both as a player and a person. 💪🏻
