The defeat to Paris Saint-Germain exposed quite a lot of flaws in Manchester United’s system.

Not only do they need to improve defensively, but need to strengthen their core in the middle as well. Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera were both tactically outdone, while Paul Pogba had a frustrating night.

If not anything, it indicated the Red Devils needing another world-class midfielder to create the perfect pivot. Indeed, they are looking at options and according to reports (according to AS via the Mirror), United are looking to sign out of favour Adrien Rabiot in what would be a free summer move.

The French midfielder has been exiled at PSG for unwilling to sign a new contract and will be available for free after June, certainly making him an attractive prospect.

Rabiot’s scored two goals and assisted one in only 14 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG this season. A tough tackling midfield who averages 2.5 tackles per game (via WhoScored), he’s an energetic figure who protects his defence and also acts as an extra attacker going forward.  The 23-year-old’s recorded almost 93% passing accuracy this season, while often displaying his creative wit across a variety of central positions.

The Frenchman is yet to hit prime form, but his impressive performances in big stages have already given glimpses of his potential. Rabiot could immerse himself into United’s system effortlessly and get the better out of Pogba, while also helping their pacy attack rally on in full flow.

The Red Devils would surely face heavy competition for Rabiot, with many big clubs after him. However, if Ed Woodward can strike an irresistible deal, he could agree to join United and solve their midfield woes.
