Owen Hargreaves was impressed with Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes’ latest performance vs LASK, via the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old was instrumental during the Red Devils’ dominant 5-0 victory over the Austrian side in the first leg of the Europa League last-16.
Speaking on BT Sport Hargreaves even made a big call and compared him to derby rival Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne.
The former England international remarked, “every time he gets the ball he makes something happen.”
Hargreaves added “Fernandes is on fire, he created five chances in that first half. Like De Bruyne, he plays at his own speed, he’s never rushed, finds pockets of space.”
The January signing put on a midfield masterclass against LASK, teeing up Odion Ighalo to break the deadlock in the first half. He created 2 big chances and had 82 touches of the ball throughout the game (SofaScore).
Since signing for £49.5m from Sporting Libson, Fernandes has made an immediate impact, with United now unbeaten in their past 11 games, scoring 29 goals and keeping nine clean sheets (Transfermarkt).
The Portuguese midfielder has really hit the ground running, netting 2 goals and creating 3 assists in his first five games in the Premier League. He is currently valued at £54m via Transfermarkt. In comparison, Belgian superstar Kevin de Bruyne also enjoyed a sensational start to his Manchester career, bagging 3 goals and providing 3 assists in his first five games for the Blues in the English top-flight (Transfermarkt).
Only time will tell if Fernandes can maintain the same level of consistency as KDB but for now, the Reds definitely have a real star in the making.
