Manchester United: Plenty of fans want Patrice Evra hired on the coaching team

Having spent eight years playing for Manchester United, Patrice Evra has now returned to the club as he completes his coaching bags and prepares for life after hanging up the boots.

Signed from Monaco in 2006, the Frenchman went on to make over 250 league appearances for the Red Devils, before joining Juventus in 2014.

Evra announced his official retirement from the game this summer, and now seemingly has his heart set on coaching. The 38-year-old has returned to Carrington with his previous employers and is working closely with the club’s Under-18s and Under-23s.

“It’s great for the players. Patrice has been in and around the club all week and mixing through the age groups and speaking to the boys,” Under-23s manager Neil Wood told the Manchester Evening News.

“Just his influence here – he’s here doing his coaching badges – just to have him around. He’s a club legend. He’s been fantastic for the players and for the staff as well.”

Evra has spoken about his philosophy and what he wants to implement while working with the Red Devils’ younger players, saying he wants them to “understand what it means to play for the club”.

United fans are over the moon that their former left-back – who won five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time at the club – has returned, and would clearly love to see him hired permanently…
