We don’t get many stories of players distancing themselves from a move to Manchester United in the Football Transfer Tavern, but talkSPORT reckon Torino ace Angelo Ogbonna has done just that.
United have held a long-term interest in the defender, and sent scouts to watch him in action against Roma in Serie A.
Ogbonna is said to be high on Sir Alex Ferguson’s list of summer transfer targets, although the centre back insists he is not fazed about any speculation on his future. The Red Devils have also found themselves linked with Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay in more recent times with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand not getting any younger.
“If Ferguson’s son came to see me, then obviously that is very gratifying, but at this moment I am not thinking about the future,” he said.
“I live in the present. I, just like all of my teammates, am focusing only on securing safety for Torino.”
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to one of Europe’s top sides for some time, but has stayed put out of loyalty to his coach.
“I stayed for our coach,” he added. “I know and trust what he says. We only have to look each other in the eyes to understand what we have to do.”
Despite these words from Ogbonna, United will be confident a summer bid of £10 million will be enough to secure the defenders services.
