Manchester United are unwilling to go anywhere near West Ham United’s £70m valuation of Declan Rice, according to Bleacher Report.
The Red Devils have been interested in signing the 21-year-old for a long time, and reopened discussions with West Ham after it was revealed the London club were open to offers for the academy graduate.
However, it seems Ed Woodward is reluctant to pursue a bid for the midfielder, due to the economic uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.
Football insider Dean Jones stated “this potential deal has been slipping down the Old Trafford club’s priority list, though, and the latest stance—according to sources—is that the Red Devils would not be willing to go anywhere near his £70 million valuation.”
He concluded “even without the impact of a pandemic, it would be a big price tag. So during these times, it’s pretty much a no-go.”
Rice has played 29 games in the Premier League for the Hammers this season, registering 2 assists, making 3 tackles per game, averaging at least 2 interceptions, and successfully completing 1.4 clearances on average in the English top flight up until now (via WhoScored).
Regardless, it appears United have baulked at the prospect of splashing out on the Englishman, and have instead turned their attention to bringing Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford.
A large number of supporters buzzed over Rice’s transfer update on social media, with one fan commenting “Ed knows ball,” and another mocking the “ridiculous” price tag.
