Many Manchester United fans reacted to former boss David Moyes’ latest comments about failed transfer targets during his time at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the Keys and Gray show on beIN SPORTS, the Scotsman revealed the board couldn’t provide three mega signings and lamented the missed opportunities.
“Toni Kroos would certainly be the one [to Manchester United].”
“At that time we [Manchester United] were very much after Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas but I’ve got to say prior to that, at Everton, we were really close to close to a lot of good players.”
In the end, Moyes had to settle for Marouane Fellaini from his old club Everton. After arriving at United from Goodison Park for £29.16m, the centre-midfielder made 177 appearances in total for the Red Devils, scoring just 22 goals and registering 12 assists, before departing for Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng Taishan FC in February 2019.
The Glaswegian was famously appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor all the way back in 2013, but failed to live up to expectations, and was unceremoniously sacked in April 2014. He took charge of 51 games overall, winning 26 and losing 15 matches (via Transfermarkt).
While some fans may wonder about what might have been had Ed Woodward managed to sign Bale, Fabregas and Kroos, it is fair to say a large section of the United faithful still haven’t forgiven Moyes for the first-team’s struggles throughout his brief stint at the Theatre of Dreams.
One angry supporter blasted the current West Ham head coach as a “Scottish fraud,” whilst another pleaded with the “villain” to “give it a rest.”

Wish Moyes would give it a rest. Yes he was let down on the transfer front but was out of his depth from day one. A relic of a manager who should never have got the job. His tactics were to not lose and keep it tight and he took us from 1st to 7th in under a season
