Manchester United are keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen, according to a report by The Daily Mail.
It is claimed the Red Devils have asked Spurs to keep them in the loop regarding the Denmark international’s future as the 27-year-old could look to seek a move away from north London this summer.
It is suggested Eriksen could be available for around £70million as he enters the final 12 months of his contract and Tottenham could allow him to leave if they acquire Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis in the transfer window.
Potentially teaming Eriksen with Paul Pogba could provide Manchester United with the additional attacking bite they need in the middle areas of the field in terms of creating more opportunities in front of goal.
The Red Devils scored just 65 in the Premier League and finished fifth in the rankings, just ahead of Chelsea and two goals behind Tottenham.
Pogba was a largely influential figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team last season, as he managed to record 13 goals in his 35 Premier League matches and came away with figures such as 3 shots on average, 1.6 key passes and 2 fouls drawn per game.
Add Eriksen to that midfield and United could be a lethal threat going forward. The Dane had a rather solid campaign once again in the middle of the field for Spurs last season, as he scored 10 goals and provided his team-mates with 17 assists (Transfermarkt), and he also provided the most key passes per match (2.1) than anyone else in the team (WhoScored).
Those assists could benefit the likes of Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku (should he still be at the club after handing Inter Milan a strict deadline), Anthony Martial and even Alexis Sanchez in front of goal as it will give them an additional outlet to feed upon.
Manchester United appear to be keen on keeping an eye on Eriksen this summer and he could be a brilliant coup for Solskjaer’s side if they were to decide to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is a proven talent in the Premier League and has been hugely consistent in the final third of the pitch for Tottenham through the years, as he has 66 goals and 86 assists in his 277 appearances (Transfermarkt).
Whether the Red Devils look to act upon their interest remains to be seen, although it would not be a surprise if movements were made as the 8 August deadline fast approaches.
